For our latest offering we present to you a reproduction shirt and hat from the Owen’s family 60th anniversary Wrestling Extravaganza. Chances are you weren’t actually there, and neither was I for that matter, but you can imagine the excitement in the air the night of May 21st, 1985 for the Owen family’s first “supercard.” The very first Wrestling Extravaganza card held in Portland was significant for many reasons, one of the biggest being that it unified other promoters in the changing tides in the wrestling war that was being waged by the WWF. AWA tag champions the Road Warriors defended their belts against father-son duo Larry and Curt Hennig, Rick Martel defended his AWA championship, Ric Flair wrestled local hero Billy Jack Haynes to a time limit draw retaining the world NWA title. Perhaps the most significant match saw the return of Roddy Piper, who despite being a nationally recognized heel in the debut of Wrestlemania one month prior saw an outpouring of adoration for his homecoming, picking up in his feud against Buddy Rose. This double sided shirt proclaims “I Was There” Wrestling Extravaganza ’85, with the reverse featuring screen printed signatures of all the evenings participants.
